Disability Initiative is a registered charity providing support and challenge working alongside physically disabled people. 

Services 

Support for Living

This needs-led service helps disabled people reach the goals that have been set by them.  This may be to help them become more independent, to gain further improvement, rebuild confidence or new interests.

Disabled people work with staff to agree a programme of activities, which could include special interest groups such as ‘Local History’ or ‘Poetry and Music Appreciation’, access speech or physiotherapy, work to improve budgeting, culinary or other practical living skills in the Activities of Daily Living Suite.

This service is accessed directly or through Social Services and is provided for people who are within traveling distance of Camberley.  It is run over 5 days from 9.3Oam to 3pm.

Buddy Scheme

This new scheme has been developed to help disabled people focus on their goals within the community or home.  It may be that someone wishes to rebuild a social life, try new hobbies, or restart old ones, and may wish to have a ‘partner’ to do this week.  This scheme runs for 2-month sessions, and each partnership meets once a week during this time.

At present this service is accessed through the Support for Living Programme.

New Developments

Disability Initiative is situated in it own purpose-built Resource Centre and will be developing a number of new projects within the building and the local community.

Involvement

Disabled people are fully involved in the running and development of the work, and are fully represented on the Advisory Board, Board of Directors, and staff.

Funding

To develop future the projects and ensure the quality of the work Disability

Initiative will be fundraising for further support.
